Funding

Where does the money go? The members of Friends of Sutherland Performing Arts review proposals for the distribution of funds. Sutherland High School teachers, students and parents may apply for support for any Sutherland performing arts program or activity. We support requests of all sizes.

In 2010, FoSPA helped the music department provide guest performers for the district-wide Pittsford Jazz Festival. The Mambo Kings, provided workshops and performed on stage with our kids. In 2011, we paid travel expences for the festival's guest artist, Chris Vadala. These exciting events included student jazz musicians from both Sutherland and Mendon, as well as the district middle schools.

Last year, FoSPA purchased rechargable batteries to be used with the stage microphones during drama and musical productions. We supplied a dolly and fabric cover for the auditorium piano. Plus, we bought a new Kurtzweil SP2X stage piano which has already gotten a lot of use by a variety of our performance groups!

In 2012, FoSPA will help the Sutherland Musical keep ticket prices down by assisting with royalty payments for the production of Singin' in the Rain from March 22 to March 24.
